Vocational Education and Training (VET)

Vocational Education and Training (VET) is designed to prepare people for work and to teach them specific job skills.

VET courses enable students to

  • study courses which are relevant to industry needs and have clear links to post school destinations
  • qualify for the award of HSC
  • gain accreditation with industry and the workplace as part of the Australian Qualifications Framework (AQF)
  • receive special documentation showing competencies gained.

In some cases, VET courses have a specific workplace component and require students to spend a minimum number of hours in the workplace.

Some of these courses will be delivered at the school by teachers who have accreditation, while others will be delivered by TAFE.

Teachers at Rose Bay Secondary College currently have accreditation to deliver the Hospitality Operations, Construction, Information Technology, Furnishings and Screen (Production) courses.

Several teachers are currently undertaking training for Radio Broadcasting.

Some VET courses are Category B courses and students may count only one of these for the University Admissions Index (UAI). These are:

Taught at school TAFE delivered
Construction Accounting
Hospitality Retail
  Tourism
  Metals & Engineering
  Entertainment
  Business Services

Other VET courses do count towards the HSC but not the UAI
