| The collective effort of the social science team ensures that students of all abilities and ethnic backgrounds are able to achieve excellent results at both School Certificate and Higher School Certificate level. A program of excursions and other activities supports learning within the classroom. These activities, framed to complement lessons, allow students to develop their many talents, and experience a wide variety of learning situations. Some of these opportunities, which contribute to the overall curriculum of the school, include major excursions, academic competitions, university lecturers, guest speakers, and students undertake mandatory fieldwork studies. The staff of the Social Science faculty is experienced and flexible in teaching methods. They have interests across a range of subject areas. Many have marked the School Certificate and the Higher School Certificate. Teachers bring that experience into their classroom work. The Social Science faculty provides opportunities for students to become informed and responsible citizens by developing knowledge, understanding, skills and values relevant to their interaction with and participation in their physical environments, the business world and the legal system. They are encouraged to make effective economic and environmental decisions. The Social Science faculty offers a wide variety of courses including: Global Geography compulsory in years 7 & 8 Australian Geography compulsory in years 9 & 10 Commerce a variety of optional courses in years 8, 9 & 10, including aspects of business, law and government in the commercial world. Geography includes the topics of ecosystems at risk, urban places, people and economic activity and involves compulsory fieldwork excursions in Years 11 & 12. Business Studies includes the topics of business management and change, financial planning and management, marketing and employment relations. Legal Studies includes the topics of law and justice, human rights, crime and the law and family law. Economics includes the topics of global economy, economic growth, unemployment, inflation, fiscal policy and monetary policy. TOP |
