Students may study content relating to; Legends, Great Killers in History, Crime and Punishment, Historical Mysteries, Great Dictators and Warfare and Terrorism. Embedded within these units is an emphasis on the construction of history, the development of students’ understanding of the nature of history and the ways in which different perspectives/interpretations of the past are reflected in a variety of historical constructions.
Appropriate units of work are designed for the selective students in line with the history syllabus; these are intended to extend the students’ skills and understanding beyond the core curriculum. The content, process and product are all differentiated which means the outcomes, assessment and reporting must also be different to reflect what is happening in the classroom. Core curriculum is compacted to only those skills or content areas that are not already mastered, providing time for more challenging learning experiences to enhance achievement levels.
