| The Creative and Performing Arts (CAPA) faculty at RBSC is vibrant and dynamic. A team of dedicated and professional teachers motivates, instructs and nurtures students creative talents. The faculty includes the subjects of music, dance and visual arts. Students are provided with a wide selection of courses within the curriculum and also with opportunities to participate in extra or co-curricular activities. These include art workshops, music and dance ensembles and the Rock Eisteddfod. Performance evenings, to showcase the work of students, are a feature of the faculty. This fast-growing faculty has produced some outstanding results, with performances at the Seymour Centre and the Entertainment Centre. Students at RBSC currently have the opportunity to take dance as an elective in years 8-10 and for their HSC in years 11-12. The study of dance as an art form focuses on performance, composition and appreciation of dance. Dance performance classes centre on developing dance technique and performance quality while maintaining safe dance practices. Composition gives students the opportunity to express themselves through the medium of dance. Appreciation of dance is explored through the means of describing and analysing dance as an expression of ideas within a social, cultural or historical context. Dance students have the opportunity to perform and participate in a number of events during the school year, such as regional dance festivals, interschool festivals/events, school performance nights and the Rock Eisteddfod Challenge. Students at RBSC have the opportunity to take drama as an elective in years 8-10 and then for their HSC in years 11-12. The study of drama focuses on making, performing and appreciating drama as a performing art. Drama students have the opportunity to participate in a number of events such as school plays, eisteddfods and drama nights. TOP Music is offered to students from years 7-12. It is a mandatory subject in year 7 and available as an elective from years 8-12. Students develop skills in performance, composition and listening, with the addition of musicology in year 11 and 12. At HSC level, there are two different courses available: Music 1 and Music 2. Course content on both campuses covers a variety of topics, genres and styles. Among these (to name a few) are: - jazz

Students are encouraged to perform as soloists and in ensembles and are given many opportunities to present their repertoire before a live audience at such occasions as music nights, MADD (music, drama and dance) nights and assemblies, as well as various community events and competitions throughout the wider region. Students are also encouraged to use information technology for composition purposes and their original works are promoted thorough performances and recordings. Music students at RBSC have many opportunities to perform or participate in extracurricular activities, such junior concert band, senior jazz ensemble, string ensemble and vocal groups. A wide range of musical expertise is on hand from experienced teachers and tutors, who provide students with access to a wide range of instruments including brass, woodwind, strings, guitar, drums, bass and percussion. TOP Screen production is a course offered to students in years 11-12.It is a VET course, developed by the school from the Film, Television, Radio and Multimedia Industry Training Package and endorsed by the Department of Education. Students who successfully complete the course receive a Certificate 3 in Screen (Production). To achieve this qualification they need to complete 11 units of competency together with 70 hours of work placement over the two years duration of the course. This course does not have a HSC exam. This qualification is designed to reflect the role of personnel working in the film and television production, post-production and management areas. It allows for specialisation within each of the production areas but is also flexible enough to allow units appropriate to particular workplaces to be to be selected. Total:240 hours TOP Visual Arts offers courses in a range of media: drawing, painting, printmaking, sculpture, ceramics, photography and digital media, animation, video production and visual design. Students regularly display their artmaking and participate in local and regional exhibitions and competitions, where they have won many major prizes. Students in Year 7 are introduced to the Frames and learn how to study and appreciate art. The themes of portraits, the environment, our cultural heritage and world issues are reflected in the course content. In art making students explore a range of materials and techniques, the design elements and principles to create artworks by making informed choices. A differentiated curriculum is offered by staff in order that students can achieve at all levels. Visual Arts electives Art courses offered for Stage 5 are Photographic and Digital Media, Animation, Video Production, Ceramics, Sculpture, The Classical World, Sacred Sites and Objects and Visual Arts. Stage 6 students can select from Visual Arts, Visual Design and Photographic and Digital Media. Students engage in Bodies of Work in these areas and focus on Case Studies in their theory. Visual Arts provides stimulating and challenging learning experiences. Students are encouraged to take risks and experience new concepts and materials. The curriculum is differentiated, catering to the different levels and talents of all our students. TOP |
