| Q: Who supplies the textbooks my child needs? A: Texts are supplied by the school. Teachers will advise students of individual requirements for subjects. Some materials may be purchased from the canteen or uniform shop. Q: How much homework can I expect my child to be doing? A: Students have homework on most nights. Sometimes the work will be set for presentation in the next lesson but quite frequently it will be over a longer duration. Students should develop regular study habits and revise work done during the day. The school diary should be used regularly to help in organisation and management of time. Q: How are school excursions arranged? A: Excursions are arranged by the staff to enhance the curriculum. Explanatory letters are provided for all excursions and all excursions require parental permission. Unless otherwise stated, full school uniform is to be worn. Q: What happens if my child is late for school? A: Students who arrive late and miss roll call are to report to room A5.16 so they can have their names marked off. Students should bring with them a note from their parents or caregiver explaining the lateness. Q: What happens if my child is absent from school because of illness or some other reason? A: If a student is absent from school parents and caregivers are asked to notify the school by telephone or SMS message before 9.00am and to follow this up with a note for the roll call teacher when the student returns to school. The SMS number is 0428 605 607. Q: What if my child becomes ill at school? A: Students who feel ill or injure themselves should tell a teacher and, if necessary, they will be taken to the main office for help. If it is serious, parents and caregivers will be notified immediately and an ambulance will be called. Q: What if I my child needs to leave school early? A: Students who need to leave early must bring a note signed by a parent or caregiver and have it approved by the Deputy Principal before school. The student will then be issued with an Early Leavers pass by the office when they sign out. No student may leave the school grounds without permission. Q: Does the school have compulsory fees and contributions? A: While fees are not compulsory, families are strongly encouraged to pay the annual school contributions that help to provide basic school resources. Specialist fees in certain subject areas cover the cost of materials consumed in class. Q: What is a School Development (or pupil-free) Day? A: School development days are held on the first day of terms 1, 2 and 3. Students are not expected to attend school on these days. The purpose of these days is to enable teachers and staff to undertake professional development. Q: Can children use their mobile telephone at school? A: While we recognise the prevalence and convenience of mobile telephones, they are not to be used inside the school building. Their presence at school is discouraged so that classes, study spaces and other students are not needlessly disrupted. If misused they may be confiscated and returned at the end of the day. Q: Does the school offer scripture classes? A: As with all public schools in New South Wales, Rose Bay Secondary College is non-denominational. However, one way we recognise the diversity of our school community is through non-compulsory scripture seminars held throughout the year. These are conducted by representatives of the Christian and Jewish faiths. Please contact the school if you have an interest in any other faith tradition. Non-scripture students are involved in pastoral care activities at these times. TOP |
